A Red Deer author is donating some of his book proceeds to the Ukraine relief effort.

Bill Franz announced that he will be sending money from the sale of Mutti and Papa, A Love Story, to humanitarian relief after Ukraine’s invasion by Russia

“For every copy I sell directly for $20 — or sell through Café Vero adjacent to Eastview Apple Drugs — I will donate $10. I’m just trying to recover my printing costs,” said Franz.

Mutti and Papa is a family story about how Franz’s relatives survived the horrors of the Second World War, including combat, deportation and stays in a Siberian gulag.

It’s also a love story about how his father, a wounded soldier, met and fell in love with his mother, a Polish-born refugee in Germany.

Franz is planning some book readings/meet-the-author events at libraries in Blackfalds and Lacombe and at Red Deer’s Golden Circle. Firm dates will be announced through Facebook.

His self-published book is also available through friesenpress.com.
