Red Deer building permits down slightly in February

The Real Canadian Superstore in Red Deer will be getting a facelift.

The City of Red Deer announced its building permits numbers Tuesday and the Superstore location at 4747 53 St. has applied for exterior facade improvements, valued at $575,000.

Overall, building permits decreased in February, with 52 issued at a combined value of $3.6 million, compared to 52 permits valued at $4.9 million in 2020. February’s permits are down eight from January’s 60, which were valued at $2.9 million.

Other notable permits included building power distribution upgrade at 4831 51 St., valued at $500,000 and a permit for a detached single-family dwelling with attached garage, covered veranda (no deck or basement development) at 11 Eaton Crescent, valued at $181,973.

There is also a permit for a single-family detached dwelling with an attached garage, a front veranda at 35 Eaton Crescent, valued at $181,713, as well as a semi-detached dwelling with a front attached garage, covered veranda at 2 Earl Close, valued at $147,579.

Of the 52 permits issued in February, 32 were residential, 15 were commercial, three were public service and two were industrial.
