More than 150 collector cars and 200-plus pieces of automobilia are up for auction this weekend in Red Deer.
The 16th annual Spring Collector Car and Memorabilia Auction began Friday and carries through Saturday and Sunday inside Westerner Park’s Parkland and Prairie Pavilions.
“There are lots of high-end cars, exotic cars, a few motor bikes,” said Todd Schwindt, owner of EG Auctions, which is hosting the event.
“Our spring sale is kind of our anchor event – it’s our biggest sale of the year. … On Saturday, thousands of people will come through the doors. It’s important that people get there early because there are typically lineups in the morning.”
The event typically features a special guest appearance – this year’s appearance is Avery Shoaf from the TV series Rust Valley Restorers. He will be at the auction to sign autographs and meet with attendees from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Schwindt said the majority of the cars people will be able to bid on are muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s.
“Mustangs, Camaros, Cudas – things of that nature will be at the event. Lots of muscle cars,” said Schwindt.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the auction beginning at 10 a.m. at Westerner Park. Then on Sunday, doors open at 10 a.m., with the auction starting at 11 a.m.
If people can’t make it to the auction in person, they can still bid on cars online, as the event will be live-streamed.
“We sell cars to people in Alberta, Saskatchewan, B.C., Ontario, down into the states. We’ve even sold vehicles to people in Europe. Streaming live, as well as being a live auction, gives the opportunity for buyers all over the world to purchase the cars. It’s a large event.”
EG Auctions was established in 1999, with locations in Canada and the United States. The Canadian headquarters are located in Sylvan Lake. The company has sold more than 3,500 classic cars and has hosted 45-plus live event collector car auctions.
