Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools will celebrate Orange Shirt Day Monday.

The division will welcome and bless new First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students with their families at 5:30 p.m. This event is at Riverbend Golf Course in Red Deer and is open to Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten/Grade 1 students in the division.

“This event is a step for us in building strong relationships with our families’ right from the beginning of their journey in our school division,” said Selena Frizzley, coordinator of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Support Team.

Families will be able to listen to drumming while participating in a group smudge and plant a reconciliation tree.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to connect with local elders, Rosena Winnie and Corky Laresn-Jonasson.
