Red Deer Citizens on Patrol performed a lock it or lose it event in the GoodLife Fitness and Parkland Mall parking lots last week.

Of the 176 vehicles that were checked, 129 vehicles had everything secured, 17 had garage door openers visible, 20 had possessions or cash in view, six had electronics in view, two purses were seen and two had anti-theft devices.

“Congratulations Red Deerians for doing such a good job,” the group said in a Facebook post.

“However, this is a good reminder to remove all valuables from your vehicles and to remember to hide garage door openers because your vehicle can be broken into, insurance documents & opener removed and then they can gain quick entry to your garage and/or home.”

Red Deer Citizens on Patrol is a program that works with police in an attempt to reduce crime in the city.
