Members of the public, media and city staff are once again able to attend Red Deer council meetings in person.

For the first time in over two years, council meetings will be open to the public. Meetings were shifted to a virtual setting at the start of the pandemic.

“We are excited to welcome staff, public and members of the media to attend Council meetings in person once again,” said Lisa Perkins, corporate and employee services general manager.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to re-engage in City matters and a welcome sign that we are continuing to work our way back to more regular pre-pandemic operations.”

City council meetings will continue to be live-streamed for those who wish to tune in online.

“This increases the options available for our citizens to participate in the democratic process, and of course, we ask anyone who is feeling unwell to use these virtual options,” said Perkins.

Council committee meetings will only be accessible in person until technology upgrades can be completed in committee meeting spaces.

The next regular city council meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 18.
