Red Deer city council re-designates $2.67M for Red Deer Regional Airport

The $2.67 million the City of Red Deer already allocated to the Red Deer Regional airport is being re-jigged to help bring about a $30 million provincial grant.

The airport needs $5 million to qualify for the $30 million the province previously granted to fund road construction, the installation of water, sanitary, stormwater, fiber optics lines and taxi-ways to allow for new developments on 220-acres of along Township Road 374.

As a contribution towards the $5 million, city administration recommended that $2,320,000 of capital funding to the airport approved during the city’s budget process, be reallocated for the construction of the terminal and parking lot.

The remaining $350,000 can then be retained for Apron 2 for emergency repairs, to ensure this is safely serviceable for several years.

This re-designation was approved by council on Monday.

The airport is also receiving some funding from Red Deer County.
