Red Deer College is flying the flag for mental health.

The college was one of 12 post-secondary institutions across the country randomly selected to display a flag in recognition of Bell’s Let’s Talk Day on Wednesday.

Bell’s Let’s Talk initiative began in September 2010 with the goal of beginning a new conversation about Canada’s mental health.

The telecommunications company has since raised nearly $101 million for access, care and research programs focused on mental health.

Red Deer College has actively supported mental health initiatives in its departments. From Jan. 20 to 23, the college’s Make Some Time campaign encouraged students, staff and faculty to talk about mental health and engage in efforts to improve their health.

That campaign was followed by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference initiative Make Some Noise for Mental Health on Jan. 24.

The college also offers workshops on stress management, free personal counselling and academic support for students.
