Red Deer College will continue to support students through in-person and online learning, says the president of the post-secondary institution.
In a statement Thursday, Minister of Advanced Education Demetrios Nicolaides, said that with the majority of Alberta adults expected to receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by July, post-secondary schools can go back to in-person learning.
“Looking forward to the fall term, we all value connections and are excited to welcome more of our students in a face-to-face environment,” RDC president Peter Nunoda said Friday.
“We’ve made a variety of changes to adapt our course and service delivery during the pandemic, and we’ve learned a great deal during the past year that has helped us to best serve our students, no matter what the delivery method.
“As we look to the future, we will continue to support students in their learning, whether in person or online, by ensuring they have choice in how they learn.”
The pandemic has created challenges for everyone, and there are still unknowns for the future, said Nunoda.
“The pandemic has resulted in enrolment challenges for RDC and for all post-secondary institutions. Based on what we’ve learned so far, we have seen a slight decrease in enrolment of first-year students, in particular. As part of our regular cycle, RDC continues to accept applications from students to attend next academic year.
“With the opportunity for more in-person learning, as well as more choice in whether to learn in-person or online, we are confident that we can provide students the educational pathways they need to reach their goals.”
