A beloved part of winter in Red Deer, the community outdoor rinks are frozen and ready for skating.

A Friday press release from the City of Red Deer, said city crews hard at work have helped ensure the rinks and natural ice skating surfaces are now ready for use.

The recent cold weather also helped play a role getting the rinks open.

The city does recommend everyone uses helmets while on the ice. Hockey pucks and sticks are not permitted at Bower Ponds or the Recreation Centre Oval.
