A Red Deer mental health counsellor will be signing copies of the book that she wrote to help people uncover the hidden causes of their anxiety at Chapters on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Anxiety Therapy at Home: Dancing with Your Shadow, written by Helena Green, is a workbook based on the clinical approach that she developed called Anxiety Re-patterning Therapy.

Green said the workbook provides a step-by-step approach to addressing anxiety on both the conscious and subconscious levels of the mind.

“Until you can really address the cause in the subconscious, you continually bump up against different expressions of the same story. If you don’t get in touch with the cause and heal from within, people just get lost in their story,” said Green, who is a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling and Registered Professional Counsellor.

Green said her therapy is based on three types of therapy — Compassionate Inquiry developed by Dr. Gabor Maté, Internal Family Systems by Dr. Richard Schwartz, and meridian tapping.

Her book makes a comprehensive therapy program available to the reader, complete with strategies, techniques and worksheets.

Green said one of her favourite testimonials was from a reader with autism who called her book concise and easy to follow because providing accessible therapy is very important for people with anxiety.

She said she wrote the book, first published in April 2021, to reach people who can’t afford counselling, can’t attend counselling due to scheduling difficulties, and those concerned about the stigma of seeking counselling.

“It was mainly to reach people who are falling between the cracks,” Green said.

Anxiety Therapy at Home: Dancing with Your Shadow, which was a best seller on Amazon in Canada, is available as from Amazon, Indigo, Apple, Barnes & Noble, and Chapters.
