A fire ban is in effect for Red Deer County.

The lack of recent precipitation has created dry conditions, which can easily lead to a fire growing out of control, the county said in a release Friday.

All outdoor fires presently burning within Red Deer County, even if they were set with permission or under permit, must be extinguished immediately.

The ignition of any outdoor fires are prohibited until further notice.

This ban does not include fires contained within cooking and heating appliances, which are fuelled by fluids or gases, fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes and propane-fuelled firepits.

The City of Red Deer imposed a similar ban Thursday.
