Red Deer Emergency Services finds numerous fuel containers unsafely stored in downtown residential backyard

Red Deer Emergency Services was at a home on Ross Street near 47th Avenue on Wednesday afternoon after someone called with concerns about unsafe fuel storage in a backyard.

Firefighters found numerous barrels, jerry cans and slip tanks with various amounts of fuel in the backyard. The containers will be removed for safety and the property owner will have to clean up the site.

Firefighters also found an unsafe electrical connection to a fuel pump, which was also removed.

People in residential areas can only store up to 50 litres of fuel and similar products on their property under city bylaws.
