Photos: Red Deer EMS responders and patient injured when ambulance hit at city intersection

Injuries to EMS staff and patient and three occupants of an SUV not believed to be serious

Two Red Deer EMS responders and a patient being transported were injured when an ambulance was flipped on its side in a collision Tuesday.

The collision happened shortly after 6 p.m. near Gaetz Avenue and 32nd Street as the ambulance was heading to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Police said the northbound ambulance was using its lights and siren as it went through the intersection on the red light. A westbound SUV that was on a green light collided with the rear of the ambulance.

The force of the impact knocked the ambulance on its driver’s side.

“The three occupants in the ambulance suffered unknown injuries but they are not believed to be serious,” said police.

RCMP continue to investigate and are asking any witnesses to call police at 403-343-5575.
