One of central Alberta’s premier community fundraisers is being recognized on the national stage.

The annual Christmas fundraiser, Festival of Trees, was selected as a finalist in the 2020 Canadian Event Industry Awards for the best event produced by a community-based non-profit.

“We are very honoured and proud to be nominated,” said Red Deer Regional Health Foundation chief executive Manon Therriault.

“Our volunteers, supporters, donors, staff and community take great pride in this annual event. It is a lot of hard work, but very rewarding.”

The festival has been a mainstay in central Alberta, raising more than $16 million in the past 26 years for programs, services and equipment at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

More than 2,000 volunteers participate in the initiative each year.

The winners of the national awards will be announced in Toronto later in this year.
