Mayor Tara Veer and the Kin Clubs of Red Deer will gather in city council chambers Thursday morning to raise a flag in recognition of the service organizations.
The ceremony will recognize the impact the local Kinsmen, Kinettes and K40 have made on Red Deer since they were established in 1937.
The local ceremony is part of a Canadawide flag-raising celebration for the service organization’s 100th anniversary.
The celebration will continue throughout the year, with Kin across the country participating in National Day of KINdness on Saturday.
In Red Deer alone, the clubs have been the driving force behind support for The Big Brothers and Sister’s Camp Alexo, The Abbey Centre, Red Deer Royals, Grow Boys and the Red Deer Food Bank, among countless other worthy community causes.
Kin Canada members have collectively raised more than $1 billion for Canadian communities to date. They have also contributed $47 million to cystic fibrosis research and been advocates for blood, organ and tissue donation.
