Red Deer Food Bank offices will be refreshed

Administration offices at the Red Deer Food Bank are getting a much-needed face lift on the weekend, thanks to a $6,000 donation from Lowe’s Red Deer and Lowe’s Canada.

Food bank deputy director Alice Kolisnyk said renovations upstairs will include painting, new flooring, an upgraded washroom, a new banister and ceiling tiles.

Furniture and about 30 boxes of offices supplies and equipment will be moved out of the offices and boardroom on Friday for work to be done on Saturday and Sunday.

Kolisnyk said the food bank moved into the location at 7429 49th Ave. about 18 years ago and not much upstairs has changed since.

Lowe’s Red Deer chose the food bank as the recipient of its in-house fundraising campaign that raised $2,500. Lowe’s Canada added an additional $3,500.

Twenty-two members of local Lowe’s staff will be doing the renovation work.

Volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will help with the move on Friday and on Monday.

“Thank you to Lowe’s, who are coming to do the work. Thank you to the volunteers who are helping to move the heavy, bulky furniture,” Kolisnyk said.
