Red Deer high school has COVID-19 case

St. Joseph High School in Red Deer confirmed a positive COVID-19 case on Jan. 20.

An individual at the school tested positive for the virus and any close contacts are being asked to isolate between Jan. 20 and Feb. 2.

It was the first case of the new year at the school. According to Support Our Students, an online advocacy group, it is the fifth case at the school since the beginning of the school year.

In Thursday’s provincial update, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 178 schools on alert, four on outbreak. In total, that including 282 total cases and there has reportedly been in school transmission in 23 schools.
