No one was injured when a mattress fire forced partial evacuation of a Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre ward Wednesday.

Fire crews were called at 3:02 p.m. and arrived to find the mattress extinguished by hospital staff. They remained on scene to monitor air quality.

The cause remains under investigation.

This is the second hospital mattress fire in just over a month. On March 20, Unit 36 was evacuated and water damage done from the activated sprinkler system. The investigation found a patient deliberately set alight the bedding. No charges were laid.
