UPDATED: Red Deer Hospital Lottery kicks off 20th year

Dream home bungalow worth $839,895

Red Deer Hospital Lottery is celebrating its 20th year with another gorgeous dream home.

The 2018 Red Deer Lottery dream home, designed by Sorento Custom Homes, is a $839,895 corner lot bungalow featuring 2,917 sq. ft. of developed living space with vaulted ceilings, a screened sunroom, double garage, and much more.

Money raised will be used to purchase 17 innovative patient beds that improve safety, comfort and functionality while reducing pain, pressure points and skin breakdown.

Rob Swanson, interim executive director of Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, said about 28 beds were purchased from money from the 2017 lottery.

“These ones have the ability to improve the care, not only by just the comfort level, but also a matter of improving the performance and reducing the risk to patients and staff for potential falls related to patients in terms of getting in and out of beds,” Swanson said.

“Every patient that is admitted into a hospital goes into a bed. So the benefit is really so broad.”

The more expensive beds that will be purchased are about $40,000 a piece.

He said the new beds will also improve care for patients who live outside Red Deer. About 50 per cent of patients at Red Deer hospital are from outside the city and the new purchases will allow surplus beds to be used to replace the oldest beds elsewhere in Central Zone.

“Our rural communities will be supported through this as well in a secondary way.”

Proceeds from the lottery have exceeded $7 million since its inception.

This year there are 37 prizes to be won valued at more than $1.1 million. The MegaBucks 50 Raffle has a minimum payout of $100,000 and last year’s winner took home over $228,000.

Tickets are $35 each, three for $75, five for $100 or 15 for $250. MegaBucks tickets are $10 each, 10 for $25 and 25 for $50.

The dream home, at 56 Larratt Close, is open from March 9 to April 1 daily from 1 to 5 p.m. From April 2 to June 14 it will be open Friday to Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
