The Red Deer Hospital Lottery wants to see someone move into the home of their dreams.
The lottery was officially launched Friday, with the grand prize being an $840,000, 3,110 square-foot bungalow, located at 68 Larratt Close. The home features three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms and a master chef kitchen with an adjoining butler pantry.
“Sometimes you walk into show homes and you can tell they’re trying to impress people with the newest trends, whereas this house here feels like something you could live in on a daily basis,” said Manon Therriault, Red Deer Regional Health Foundation CEO.
Mike Ronnie, construction supervisor for Sorento Custom Homes, the builder of the project, has been a part of three dream home builds with the company.
“Each house has kind of been unique over the last three years. This one’s a little bit more of a farm … style house,” he said.
The open-concept basement, where two of the bedrooms are located, could be used in many ways, he added.
“Whether it’s entertainment, fitness rooms … that open concept is something that’s been popular of the past couple of years,” he said.
This is the 21st year of the lottery, which supports the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Since its inception, the lottery has raised more than $8.5 million.
The money raised this year will be used to purchase Pyxis Medstations, which are automated dispensing units with numerous electronic features to ensure safety for patients at the Red Deer hospital, as well as accuracy and efficiency for staff.
Jason Howriko, acting director for Pharmacy Services in the central zone, said these machines will “modernize” the hospital’s medication dispensing and administration process.
“It’s fully integrated into … our computer system so a nurse can only select the medication they need for their patients. It’s going to reduce errors – it’s a much more efficient and modern system than we have right now. Everything we do right now is paper-based,” said Howriko.
There are 100 prizes, totalling more than $1.1 million, people could win in the lottery.
Ticket cutoff is June 24 at 11 p.m. and the final draw for the dream home is July 5. The home is open for viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. March 15 to March 31. Starting April 1 it will be open Friday to Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
