The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre morgue experienced some capacity issues over the weekend, according to Alberta Health Services.

In an email statement, AHS said the hospital morgue did experience some capacity issues in “recent days” but currently has capacity.

“When there are capacity challenges, AHS engages with funeral homes to help ease pressures on our hospital morgues. This is aligned with provincial efforts to help transport to funeral homes as expeditiously as possible,” the statement read.

AHS noted temporary capacity issues at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton over the weekend were a result of delays in transfers to funeral homes.

Red Deer had three new COVID-19 deaths reported on Tuesday and two deaths Friday. Alberta has reported 60 new virus deaths over the last four days.
