A Lacombe man has been arrested for the alleged armed robbery of a motor vehicle in Red Deer last weekend.

Red Deer RCMP responded to the reported robbery near the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre shortly before 11 p.m. on July 11.

Police say a male suspect approached a woman sitting in her car, displayed a weapon and ordered the woman to exit her vehicle.

Red Deer RCMP issued a BOLO (be on the look out) for the stolen vehicle, along with the suspect’s description. Thirty minutes later, an Innisfail RCMP officer spotted a similar vehicle in a restaurant parking lot.

The officer determined the driver matched the suspect description and attempted to make an arrest, but the suspect fled the parking lot in the vehicle. After tracking the vehicle for about 15 minutes through the Town of Innisfail and surrounding rural area, it was stopped along 50th Street and 42nd Avenue.

The suspect, 25-year-old Quinten Meyer, was then arrested without incident and transported back to Red Deer.

The Lacombe man is charged with armed robbery, flight from police, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, mischief under $5,000 and resisting a peace officer.

After a Judicial Hearing, Meyer was remanded into custody. Meyer is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court Monday.
