The number of building permits issued in Red Deer this year is down but the value is up over last year.
Public sector construction has driven the value of the 854 building permits issued to $149.8 million to the end of November, compared with 999 permits wotrth $128 million over the same period a year ago.
There have been 50 public service building permits issued worth $52.5 million, compared with 60 permits worth $21.6 million through 11 months last year.
On the residential side, 581 permits worth $28.2 million have been issued, compared with 642 worth $30.7 million last year. November was a slower month than a year ago in home building. Last month, 39 permits worth $1.03 million were issued. In November, 2021 there were 55 permits issued representing $2.7 million in residential building.
The industrial sector has also been busier with 23 permits worth $5.5 million this year, compared with 19 worth $1.09 million last year.
Commercial building has been slower with 200 permits worth $63.4 million this year against 278 permits worth $74.4 million a year ago.
Some of the notable permits include:
• $2.2 million for ATB Financial branch improvements at 4311 54th Ave.
•$800,000 for a dental clinic permit at 6846 66th St.
•$700,000 for improvements to a physio clinic at 20 Sharpe Ave.
•$550,000 for a foundation for a new cold storage building at 6740 65th Ave.
•$290,000 for four modular classrooms at West Park Middle School at 3310 55th Ave.
