This year’s Red Deer Lights the Night celebration will bring Red Deerians four weeks of festive fun.

The City of Red Deer and Downtown Business Association (DBA) have planned a full month of holiday-themed activities downtown and throughout the city.

The festivities will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 15, when the bright decorations in City Hall Park are lit up for the first time as it grows dark at about 5:30 p.m. Highlights include light displays at City Hall Park, Ross Street Patio, and Capstone.

Also planned is a “Rare and Remarkable Art Market ” running on Nov. 25 and 26 at the Imperial Block building, 4920-48th St.

A North Pole Plaza Party will be held on Dec. 1 at Gary W. Harris Celebration Plaza at 5205- 48th Avenue, while a Winter Nights event will run Dec. 2, 3, 4 at Canada 150 Square in Capstone.

Santa’s Bus will be touring Red Deer neighbourhoods on Dec. 9, 10, as well as 16, 17. This is Red Deer Transit’s way of spreading Christmas joy throughout the city.

“We’re excited about the extension of our annual holiday festivities from a single event to a four-week initiative,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, Community Development Superintendent.

“The transition provides many opportunities for community celebration and connection while continuing the tradition of the spectacular light displays City Hall Park is known for.”

A video showcasing the lights and decorations in City Hall Park will be shared on The City’s social media channels, so those unable to visit in person can still enjoy the view from home.

Santa’s Bus Tour schedules and route maps are available on the City of Red Deer’s website and the MyBus app. Interested residents are encouraged to view schedules in advance to find out when the Santa bus will arrive in their neighbourhood.
