A Red Deer man was charged with a dozen offences after a loaded rifle was found in a police vehicle search in Airdrie.

Members of Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit were on patrol in that city on March 10 when they recognized a man who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

After arresting the suspect, a search of his vehicle lead to officers locating a loaded rifle, along with numerous tools that police believe were intended to be used as break-in instruments.

A 27-year-old man from Red Deer was charged with 12 offences, including careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of break-in instruments and several charges related to breaching court orders.

The man is in custody and was to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Monday.
