A 55-year-old Red Deer man is in custody after allegedly breaking into an Olds’ auto dealership.

Olds RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress at the Mountain View Dodge dealership east of Olds at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

A lone male was caught on a security camera, attempting to steal tires and batteries. When the RCMP arrived, the man fled in a stolen U-Haul truck through a closed gate, causing considerable damage.

The man proceeded to flee northbound on Highway 2, before entering a ditch south of Bowden.

Police service dogs were called, as the individual tried to flee on foot. He was caught in a wooded area and arrested without incident. He was also wanted on arrest warrants in Blackfalds and Calgary.

The man, from Red Deer, has been charged with six counts, including break and enter and committing theft, mischief over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, flight from police, driving while unauthorized and operating a motor vehicle while uninsured.

He is awaiting bail.
