A 27-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with second-degree murder, say police.

Red Deer RCMP responded to an alleged homicide at an apartment on 55 Street in the city this past Wednesday.

Upon arrival, police located a dead 66-year-old resident. Benjamin William Rabbit was immediately taken into custody and brought to the Red Deer RCMP detachment.

Rabbit and the deceased knew each other, police said on Friday.

Following further investigation by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Rabbit was charged with second-degree murder.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 4 in Red Deer Provincial Court via CCTV.
