A Red Deer man faces two charges of impaired driving after his vehicle struck and damaged the cable barrier posts on Hwy 2 near the 67th Street overpass just after midnight on Sunday.

Innisfail RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Hwy 2 in the southbound lanes near the overpass.

Police determined that a vehicle travelling south had struck the cable barrier, causing damage to about 20 cable support posts.

The system prevented the vehicle from crossing over into the northbound traffic lanes. No other vehicles were involved and the driver did not suffer any injuries.

The 29-year-old driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and faces two charges in relation to impaired driving. He will appear in court later this month.

Speed is also being considered as a factor in this collision.
