Red Deer man charged in neigbourhood dispute won’t go to trial

Robert Charlton agrees to stay away from complainants

A long-time Red Deer resident who had been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats avoided a trial by agreeing to the terms of a peace bond.

Robert Charlton, 78, was to have gone before a trial judge on Wednesday after pleading not guilty to the charges in July. But the case was settled when Charlton agreed to the terms of a court-ordered peace bond that prevents him from contacting the complainants for a year.

The charges stem from an incident in his Sunnybrook neighbourhood.
