Dean Johnson of Red Deer has a million reasons to be happy.

Johnson won a $1 million Maxmillions prize with his Lotto Max ticket in the Nov. 29 draw.

According to a press release from Western Canada Lottery Corporation, Johnson bought his ticket at 7-Eleven Food Store in Rocky Mountain House the day of the draw and chose his own numbers — 2, 3, 8, 16, 20, 22, and 43.

He checked the ticket the next day at a store in Red Deer where he found out he won.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Johnson said. “I was shocked, really.”

He immediately shared the good news with his wife who was also at the store.

“I called my boss that night. I told him I wasn’t going to work the next day. It was cold the next day, too; it was perfect!”

He also called his Dad that night to tell him the good news.

“He still doesn’t believe me,” Johnson said with a laugh.

Some of his plans for the windfall include a new house and a nice vacation.
