Fake social media accounts set up in the name of Red Deer South MLA

A Red Deer MLA has been a victim of online harassment.

Fake Facebook and Twitter accounts were set up in the name of Red Deer South MLA Barb Miller.

The accounts shared inappropriate posts and false political views in her name.

Through a Facebook post, Miller confirmed she was unaware of the accounts.

”I would like to warn everyone about a fake Barb Miller MLA Red Deer South Facebook page. It seems to have been started on September 13, 2016. It is not my page and those are not my comments,” said Miller.

“Thank you to the people who brought this to my attention. Facebook has been informed and the people involved will be dealt with. Also the twitter account attached to the page is also not mine.”

The New Democratic caucus released a statement yesterday that said the accounts do not represent or reflect the views of the MLA or the caucus.

The accounts were taken down Friday evening.
