Red Deer Nordic has officially wrapped up its ski season.

“This winter, cross country skiing was an ideal option for Central Albertan families looking for a novel outdoor activity and the sport saw a huge growth in participation,” the ski club said in a press release Monday.

“Nordic ski clubs throughout Alberta reported record registration and the ski trails have never been so well used. (Red Deer Nordic) was glad to be a part of this phenomenon.”

Despite COVID restrictions, Red Deer Nordic had 80 athletes in its Jackrabbit (ages 5-9) and Youth Learn to Ski programs, which ran January through March.

There were 23 athletes in the Track Attack (ages 10-12) and Red Deer Nordic (ages 12+) programs. Track Attack and Red Deer Nordic ran from October through March, with a brief interruption during the December lockdown.

The ski club will host its virtual annual general meeting March 31 at 7 p.m. For more information on the club, visit www.reddeernordic.ca.
