Ridership on city transit buses is down by about three-quarters because of concern about COVID-19, said the city manager. This is contributing to a looming cash-flow problem. (Photo by LANA MICHELIN/Advocate staff).

Red Deer offering free transit rides on Wednesday

The City of Red Deer is offering free transit rides throughout all of National Clean Air Day, which is this upcoming Wednesday.

“Residents and visitors are encouraged to take free public transit to and from their destination on Wednesday, June 7 as a simple step towards fighting climate change in our community,” states a press release issued by the city on Monday.

“Vehicle emissions contribute to climate change and good air quality is important for our health as well as the environment. By choosing to take public transit, riders are helping to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

The City of Red Deer has an Environmental Master Plan available on its website.
