Red Deer didn’t break a temperature record on Monday like other central Alberta areas, but Red Deerians have enjoyed a lot more warm days than usual this month.
“On average Red Deer has three days in October that are 20 C or more. Yesterday was your 10th day already so far in October,” said Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada on Tuesday.
Red Deer reached a high of 23.8 C on Monday which wasn’t enough to break the record of 24.4 C set in 1936.
However, the Sundre area reached a new record of 26.1 C, surpassing the 24 C record set in 2015. The Nordegg Area also climbed to a record 24.6 C to beat 23.5 C in 2015. The Rocky Mountain House area squeaked by the record of 23.9 C set in 1929 when it hit 24 C.

Lang said a cool front will sweep through likely on Thursday to break Alberta’s lengthy warm spell.
“It’s coming to an end. You’ll definitely notice a marked change in temperature, and then we have another weather system moving through on the weekend and it’s likely to bring the first snow.”
She said autumn does tend to bring weather whiplash when the cold air brews in the north and there’s warm air to the south. The warmth that stalled over Western Canada is now finally showing signs of breaking down.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Wednesday in Red Deer calls for a high of 20 C, before the high dips to 13 C on Thursday, 8 C on Friday, and 2 C on Saturday with a 60 per cent chance of snow. Temperature rebounds slightly to 5 C on Sunday and 6 C on Monday.
The overnight low is forecast to drop to -4 C on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
