Central Albertans will have the chance to recycle used oil, filters, containers, leftover paint, and empty paint cans over the weekend.

The Alberta Recycling Management Authority in partnership with the City of Red Deer will host their second Paint and Used Oil Materials Roundups for 2021 on Saturday.

People will be able to drop off items from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with no charge at 5222 – 54 Avenue in Red Deer.

“Over 300 vehicles entered the roundup site for the last event on May 15 with residents bringing in over 4,800 litres of used oil and 270 gallons of paint, helping fulfill our vision of creating a future without waste,” said Ed Gugenheimer, CEO of ARMA.

The high-quality material is re-refined into new lubricating oil and the lower quality oil helps fuels various industrial applications. Leftover latex is either made into new paint or used as feedstock in cement manufacturing. The plastic paint containers see new life as park benches or planters.

There will also be a similar event on Sept. 25.
