Menopause workshops run by Red Deer Primary Care Network are providing women with the latest information.
Available for about a year, the workshops were designed by Dr. Esnielle Brooks with Red Deer PCN. Brooks is a certified practitioner with the North American Menopause Society.
Dr. Peter Bouch, with the PCN, said doctors often get questions about menopause and it’s nice to have a trusted, local resource when there is so much information available online that may not be accurate.
“I think you need to be educated about it and be able to make the right decision for yourself,” Bouch said.
“This is based on the latest science,” he said about the workshops, which have been very well attended.
Bouch said he knows a few women who have taken the workshop who found it very informative.

The menopause workshop led by PCN staff runs two hours a week for four weeks, and focuses on identifying types of menopauses (perimenopause versus menopause) and common symptoms; pharmacology treatment for managing symptoms; other body changes and common symptoms in midlife; staying healthy mentally and physically to manage symptoms; and post-menopause health and aging.
The next workshop runs Aug. 29 to Sept. 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
