A Red Deer man is charged with arson after police investigated an apartment building fire in Riverside Meadows.

At 10:45 am on Dec. 15, Red Deer RCMP and City of Red Deer Fire Services responded to a structure fire at 5820-61 Street.

The building was evacuated without any injuries, and the fire, located in a third-floor suite, was extinguished. RCMP investigators determined the fire was an arson, and a suspect was arrested and charged last month.

Gary Gordon Colwill, 55, of Red Deer, is charged with arson and disregard for human life. Colwill is in custody.

He made his first court appearance on Jan. 25 and will appear again on March 7 at 9:30 am.
