Red Deer police recapture suspect who tried to run away from custody

Despite an attempt to make a quick getaway, Red Deer RCMP re-arrested a man after a brief foot chase.

Police arrested the adult male, who tried to make a break for it after he received a medical examination at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Saturday morning.

Police, acting on outstanding warrants, arrested the male at 9:30 a.m. and took him to the hospital for injuries they said were pre-existing and occurred prior to the suspect being booked into custody.

After the medical examination was completed, a police member escorted the suspect outside when he took off running. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was re-arrested without incident.

Several officers responded to the area.Neither the suspect nor RCMP members were injured.

The male, of no fixed address, is being held in police custody and now faces an additional charge of escape lawful custody. Police have not released the name as charges have not yet been sworn.
