The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings hockey started February on a high note.

The Kings got by the Portage College Voyageurs Thursday night on home ice without spectators at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. RDP picked up a 6-3 victory and moved to 5-3-1 on the season.

Portage scored the only goal of the opening frame, but the Kings drew even with a Mathieu Lapointe marker late in the second period.

RDP scored five straight to open the third period to put the game away. Ryley Smith, Jacob Kendall, Tucker Scantlebury Chase Haygarth and Chance Longjohn all had third-period tallies in the victory. Laponite and Smith also each added a pair of assists in the win. RDP was just one-for-eight on the power play in the win and goalie Kristian Lyon picked up his first Alberta Colleges Athletic Association win.

The Kings will travel to Lac La Biche to take on the Voyageurs Saturday night. They have six games left in the regular season and sit third in the ACAC.
