Red Deer Polytechnic has updated its rapid COVID-19 testing policy for the 2022 winter and spring terms.

Students who attended RDP in the fall or who have completed work towards a program at the institution, as well as current employees will still be permitted to provide a COVID-19 negative test result within 72 hours of each time they attend campuses or learning centres, if they are not fully vaccinated.

“The decision to continue to permit the use of negative COVID-19 rapid tests by current and returning students who are not fully vaccinated will help ensure students who began their education before the implementation of the institution’s vaccination program can successfully complete their current program,” reads a post on the institution’s website.

New students, however, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or show a medical exemption no later than Jan. 1 to enroll in winter and spring classes. New employees, scheduled to start after Jan. 1, must be fully vaccinated or show a valid medical exemption.

According to the post, “the transition period between now and the end of the 2021/2022 academic year allows our institution to maintain safe campuses and learning centres where students can attend in person. This also supports our commitment to current and returning students who are progressing in programs that started prior to the launch of the full vaccination program.”

New students who do not wish to be vaccinated may request to cancel their Winter term registration and receive a full refund by emailing admissions@rdpolytech.ca no later than Dec. 24.
