Red Deer property owners are reminded the property tax deadline is next week on June 30.

Taxpayers have a number of options to pay their taxes including through their financial institution, by mail, or in person at City Hall, which just recently reopened to the public.

The city wants to remind taxpayers that not all payments are instant, so they should take steps to confirm processing times to ensure payments are submitted on time.

Taxpayers should ensure envelopes are postmarked by June 30 if paying by mail, confirm processing times if paying through their financial institution, or ensure they are at City Hall before it closes on June 30 at 4:30 p.m.

Property owners are encouraged to pay what they can by the deadline to minimize penalties.

On July 1, a 3.5 per cent penalty will be applied to any outstanding property taxes, with the exception of those registered for monthly payments through the Tax Instalment Plan.

Taxpayers are welcome to contact the city with any questions, or to determine which payment options will work best for their situation. Tax staff can be reached by calling 403-342-8126, or by email at tax@reddeer.ca.
