The Red Deer Public Library will open a temporary pop-up branch at the Bower Place Shopping Centre on April 4.

It will welcome the public from April to October, 2022, exposing more people to library services through this new location.

The pop-up branch will be open during regular mall hours.

Customers can visit it (across from Purdy’s Chocolatier and near The Bay) to sign up for a new library card or renew their existing membership, which is free for Red Deer residents.

They can also browse and borrow library materials from the pop-up collection (which includes books, movies, puzzles, kits, literacy backpacks, and more), attend a library program, or bring their children to enjoy playing and reading in the “Children’s Corner.”

Library staff will be available to tell customers about library programs, collections, services, and resources, including information about the three permanent library locations.

“We love connecting with the community in new and exciting ways, and after two years of being more apart than together, we are really looking forward to celebrating with this new initiative,” said Briana Ehnes, RDPL’s Events & Innovation Manager.

“We are excited to showcase everything that the library has to offer to people of all ages, and hope to sign up many new users for free library memberships during our time at the mall.”

Ehnes added, “In a time when goods and services are becoming increasingly expensive, we feel that we have so much to offer — free of charge — that can really enhance people’s lives.”
