The Red Deer Queer Community Association is looking to raise $5,000 to open a coffee shop in downtown Red Deer.

“In the aftermath of the 1 Million March for Children Protests, the need for a safe place for 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Red Deer is needed now more than ever,” states a RDQCA press release issued on Thursday.

This coffee should, which would be run by the RDQCA, would be “open to everyone and provide a safe space for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community” in Red Deer and the surrounding area.

“Over the last couple of years, there has been a sharp increase in hostility towardsthe 2SLGBTQIA+ community in this county, with anti-2SLGBTQIA policies being introduced in several provinces. That is why we decided that the community in Red Deer and the surrounding area needed a community-safe place to meet and be themselves.”
