Charges are pending for a man who allegedly had a firearm in public this past weekend.

At about 3:44 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, Red Deer RCMP responded to a report of a man with a handgun at the intersection of 40 Avenue and Ironside Street.

Police located and arrested a 38-year-old man at a nearby residence. A weapon was recovered by police and the investigation is continuing to determine if it is linked to the incident.

“The Red Deer RCMP wish to thank the public for reporting this matter and as a result of the prompt police response the public was not at risk,” police said in a media release on Thursday.
