Red Deer RCMP investigating after apparent firearm photo sent to high school students

Police called about 2 p.m. after photo reported of someone holding what appears to be a firearm

Red Deer RCMP went to Hunting Hills High School on Thursday afternoon after a photo was sent to students of someone holding what is believed to be a firearm.

Police said they were notified by the school shortly after 2 p.m. about the photo.

“Although there are no known threats or messaging, the Red Deer RCMP take threats like these very seriously and will investigate thoroughly as such threats can have a significant impact on students, staff, families and our community’s feeling of safety and mental well-being,” said police in a news release sent out at 3:50 p.m.

Red Deer RCMP are asking anyone who knows who sent the photo to students or who has any information in relation to this investigation to contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.
