A vehicle stolen from Lacombe was spotted and recovered by Red Deer RCMP on March 15.

Red Deer RCMP said members of the Crime Reduction Unit were conducting proactive patrols of strategic crime locations in the city’s north end when a member observed a suspicious vehicle idling outside an apartment building in the Pines neighbourhood at about 10 a.m.

The vehicle had been reported stolen five days earlier in Lacombe.

Police continued to observe the vehicle, and its three occupants, as it travelled through the city and into the county. At one point, the vehicle’s licence plate was switched out for a new plate. This plate’s registration also did not match the vehicle.

At about 11:30 a.m., the vehicle stopped at a north end scrap metal business and the three occupants exited, and] RCMP arrested the suspects. The two passengers were not charged.

The driver, a 31-year-old woman, of Red Deer County, was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of possession of identity documents, and failure to comply with undertaking.

She was released after posting bail, and is set to appear at Red Deer Provincial Court on Apr. 5.
