Red Deer RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to help identify a suspect who stole a vehicle and tried to rob a gas station in July.

Police said on July 11, at about 7:30 a.m., a man stole a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado near the McDonald’s restaurant, at 2502-50 Ave. The man arrived at the restaurant on a bike and there was someone inside the truck when he approached the parked vehicle.

Around 8:40 a.m., the suspect drove the stolen vehicle to the Fas Gas at 5926-54 Ave. and attempted to rob the gas station.

Police said when the suspect confronted a gas station employee, an altercation occurred, and the suspect fled in the stolen vehicle.

Police recovered the vehicle later that day.

Red Deer RCMP released images of the suspect so that the public might help identify the individual. The suspect was described as a male wearing a blue hoodie and camouflage cargo pants, and carried a backpack with bright neon green straps.

Anyone with information about these incidents, or witnessed suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, is asked to contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575 or their local police department. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.p3tips.com.
