Two dogs unwittingly became involved in a vehicle theft and police hope the public can help find the stolen SUV and the pooches.

Tuesday afternoon, Red Deer RCMP received a report that a black Toyota 4 Runner was stolen while it was idling in a convenience store parking lot at 33rd Street and 50th Avenue.

The two dogs were in the SUV when it was stolen.

The dogs were turned into the Red Deer and District SPCA this afternoon, but the vehicle hasn’t been found.

Police said the SUV has some rust and has the Alberta licence plate BMG 4421.

Anyone with information about the SUV or the dogs is asked to contact the Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477 or at www.tipsubmit.com.
