Red Deer RCMP are asking the public to help identify a possible witness to a fire that destroyed a downtown apartment building.

Just before 3 p.m. on Aug. 24, the transitional housing building at 5129 50th Ave. began to burn. The building sustained significant damage and the decision was made to tear it down.

Police said they are seeking to identify a woman who was captured on video inside the building as a potential witness.

“She is not under suspicion, but may have information that can help the investigation,” a RCMP press release said Friday.

Investigators have spoken with a number of residents of the building and other witnesses, but have not been able to identify the woman seen in the video.

Anyone with information about this individual or the fire is asked to call the Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.
